Understanding the distribution of commercially important species of the Caspian Sea is very important for their proper management and protection. Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) modeling is a valuable tool in the environment to achieve this goal, and this method can be used to describe the relationship between the abundance of species and ecological variables in order to estimate the desirability of certain habitats. The activity of fishing cooperatives (called the Pareh) is one of the important activities in the fishing regions of Iranian coastal waters. Awareness of their performance can be effective in deciding to monitor and modelling forecasting catches taking into account both the interests of the stakeholders and the marine ecosystem. To identify habitat changes and changes in fishing activity distribution using fisheries data and environmental variables (chlorophyll a, SST, minimum humidity, wind speed, wind direction), we developed the Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) models using the Geometric Mean (GMM) method. The commercial fish habitat of the Caspian Sea in Mazandaran province was modeled with HSI based on the frequency of catch per unit of effort (CPUE) and fishing effort and compared with each other. The results showed that the combination of two models, HIS based on fishing effort and HSI based on CPUE in defining optimal habitats work better for Caspian bony fishes.
