Model of Iranian elderly people's attitude towards packaged fish consumption

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Proper nutrition and providing healthy food are especially important due to the increase in the country's elderly population. Therefore, the assessment of the status of fish consumption in the elderly is due to the high digestibility and its effects on health and prevention of cardiovascular diseases and many other diseases it necessary. The research was conducted to obtain the model of consumption of packaged fish in the elderly.
Materials and Methods: After designing the questionnaire through interviews and searching scientific sources electronically, it was distributed completely randomly among the elderly over 60 years of age through cyberspace. Then, the structural equation model was used to identify the factors affecting the decision to purchase and consume packaged fish among the elderly in the country.
Results: The results showed that most of the elderly respondents are male and retired who live with their spouses. The average age of the respondents was 67 years. The education level of most of the elderly respondents was below diploma. Factors such as type of processing, health, experimental records, access, income, advertising and packaging characteristics had a significant effect on the attitude of the elderly towards packaged fish. At the same time, the factor of price and convenience of consumption was not significant on their attitude towards the consumption of packaged fish. Therefore, it is clear that the elderly is willing to buy packaged fish due to their awareness of the nutritional properties of the price factors and advertisements, and because of their interest in the quality of fish.
Conclusion: By helping the elderly income and paying attention to the proper and quality processing, supply, and availability of fish, we can meet their needs and maintain their health.
